My name is Giuseppe Pasquali. I live and work in Rome. I was born in Livorno - a seaside town on the north-western coast of Tuscany, Italy - in 1964. I shot my first pictures at six or seven with my father's Ferrania and Kodak Retina and immediately after I received as a present my first camera: a Polaroid Model 20 "Swinger". Since then I have always been involved in photography. Street photography became my specialty since 1981, when I bought a "Canon AE1 - Program" and toured Italy in search of local traditional events and celebrations. I studied semiotics, foreign literatures and ancient languages at the University of Pisa and got a degree "magna cum laude" in Linguistics. This cultural background helped me greatly to conceive and develop a "narrative/philosophical" photographic style. I attended several street and creative photography workshops during a quite long working experience in the United Kingdom. Federico Scianna, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Henry Cartier - Bresson were and are among my favourite photographers: their works have surely influenced my style. From their portfolios I have learned those few things I know about quick composition and "gettin' the right moment to shoot". Some of my works have been exhibited in galleries and shows in Italy and abroad. Today I shoot mostly on self assigned projects (lifestyle, events and street) that are submitted to galleries and magazines. I am using a Nikon D80 with a Nikon AF-S DX VR NIKKOR 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED lens. This choice is due to a practical reason: I need a zoom to be free to compose quickly in the street without having to change lens. I usually shoot in raw format and adjust and post produce the raw negatives personally. Prints are made by Fotogramma24, a professional printer here in Rome that uses long lasting pigmented inks on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl/290gsm paper. Recent publications:
