KR-line info.KR-line gallery is a young art gallery in the historical centre of Bruges. The gallery specializes in contemporary photography and related arts. Young or beginning artists get the opportunity to show their innovating work to a broad audience. This way, the gallery also wants to give some impulses for modernisation and a more sparkling atmosphere in this city. The owner, Kris Rotsaert, studied photography at the academy for fine arts in Roeselare (Roulers) where he lived at that time. He learned to appreciate the works of Ansel Adams, Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, and later also Michiel Hendryckx, James Nachtwey, Helmut Newton and Greta Buysse. Ultimately, he was most impressed by the works of Nan Goldin, Bettina Reims, Vanessa Beecroft and Spencer Tunick. Returning in 2007 to his native city Bruges, he wanted to start a small but innovating art gallery for photography. As a result, gallery KR-line opened on Oct. 31st 2007: a logo with the initials of the owner and a wink to those famous animation films "La Linea" made by Osvaldo Cavandoli in 1969. Not only expanding and keeping the gallery open is on the menu: Kris also wants to work with local youth around photography, he has ideas for installations in the Bruges city centre, or for a photobook with an unusual view on the city. As starting gallery, opening times are limited ,due to his main job, to saturday afternoon from 13-18h.
