Family excursion on M/S Johanna.
Last saturday, we had a fine birthday party cruise on M/S Johanna. 12 guests, 4 generations, enjoying a day on the water with exceptionally beautiful weather for december. After a warm welcome and the normal safety instructions, we set off from our mooring place in Bruges for a day of discovering the canal direction of Aalter.
Most of the guest ventured out on the sundeck to enjoy their glas of bubbles while admiring the passing landscape. Once past Steenbrugge bridge, the sight became more bucolic, sailing amidst the grasslands and meadows in the direction of Moerbrugge and Beernem.
Passing the weir of Beernem, protecting Bruges from flooding in heavy rain periods, was a special impression for most of the guests. On we tugged past the pleasure harbour of Beernem and the beautiful village of St Joris to Aalter, our turning point. Meanwhile, lunch was ready to be served…
Menu
Pumpkin soup
with crispy sage
Pork tenderloin
with chicory stew
Orange mousse
Coffee and tea
selection of cookies
Back in Beernem, we made a stop for a short walk across the foot-bridge offering a nice a view on the Johanna below. After this welcome break, off we went again back to Bruges, while tasting a delicious desert of Orange mousse, coffee and tea with a selection of cookies.
After arrival in Bruges, it was almost dark outside, time to say farewell, but not without offering a light dinner with different sorts of bread, cheeses, ham and other dressings and a good glass of beer. The end of a very fine day to remember for all. We hope to meet some of them again on our cruises in Belgium and France in the coming years.
